Mello Buckzz’s Album Release Party Shooting Leaves 4 Dead, 14 Injured
A tragic drive-by shooting outside Chicago’s Artis Restaurant and Lounge marred the album release party for Mello Buckzz’s new project titled "Hollyhood". The incident, which occurred around 11 p.m. in the River North neighborhood, left 4 people dead and 14 others wounded.
The album release party turned deadly when a dark-colored vehicle, reportedly a black Honda Accord, drove by and opened fire on a crowd gathered outside. According to Chicago police, at least one gunman fired multiple shots, with some sources suggesting a rifle was used alongside handguns, as evidenced by different calibers of shell casings found at the scene. The attack was described as targeted, with Mello Buckzz herself likely the intended focus, though she had already left the venue when the shooting occurred.
The victims, ranging in age from 21 to 32, included two men and two women who succumbed to their injuries. Among the deceased were Devonte Williamson, 23, Mello Buckzz’s boyfriend, and Taylor Walker, 26, a close friend who styled the rapper’s hair. The other victims were a 24-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman, with injuries including chest and head wounds. Of the 14 injured, four women remain in critical condition, including a 21-year-old shot in the mouth and a 24-year-old shot in the back. No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing, with police reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses.
Mello Buckzz’s spoke out after the incident.
