Lil Wayne Adds Another Diamond Record To His Crown

The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) officially certified Jay Sean’s “Down” featuring Lil Wayne as Diamond. This means the 2009 smash has now moved over 10 million units in the United States through sales, downloads, and on-demand streams.

For Lil Wayne, this marks his sixth Diamond-certified single, further cementing his status as one of the most decorated rappers in history when it comes to the RIAA’s highest honor. He now stands alongside Drake as one of only two rappers with six or more Diamond plaques.

Lil Wayne's Diamond Collection

This new certification adds to an already legendary list for Lil Wayne:

  • Lollipop (feat. Static Major)
  • Love Me (feat. Drake & Future)
  • I’m The One (DJ Khaled feat. Justin Bieber, Quavo, Chance the Rapper & Lil Wayne)
  • Look At Me Now (Chris Brown feat. Lil Wayne & Busta Rhymes)
  • The Motto (Drake feat. Lil Wayne)
  • Down (Jay Sean feat. Lil Wayne)

A Win for Jay Sean and Hip-Hop History

For Jay Sean, this is his first Diamond single and a historic milestone as the first song by a South Asian artist to reach the 10-million-unit mark in the U.S. The certification also highlights Cash Money Records’ continued influence, the label that helped launch both artists into the mainstream.

In an era where attention spans are short and new music floods the market daily, “Down” quietly kept accumulating units year after year. Its Diamond status proves that certain records don’t just fade away; they become part of the culture.
