Apple Music Host Calls Meek Mill New Song A "Lazy Effort"

 Meek Mill dropped “Nightmares to Dreams” at the end of July 2026, flipping the title and structure of his iconic 2012 album intro “Dreams and Nightmares.” The track has drawn plenty of praise from fans for the Philly rapper’s energetic delivery and bars. On Apple Music’s Rap Life Review, host Lowkey offered a more critical take.

Lowkey acknowledged that Meek is still “barring it up” and delivering strong lyricism. But he labeled the song a “lazy attempt” to recapture the energy of a classic that “we can never deny.” He argued the record won’t stick long-term and that revisiting the Dreams and Nightmares concept pulls listeners back to 2012 instead of pushing Meek’s sound forward. In Lowkey’s view, Meek has “so much more to offer” than rebooting one of his biggest moments.

Ebro, also on the show, agreed the lyrics were strong and expressed hope that the release signals a return to the hard, real-rap lane where Meek thrives. He noted there’s plenty of strong traditional rap happening right now and questioned why Meek isn’t more consistently part of that conversation.

“Nightmares to Dreams” is out now on all platforms, with the official video also available. Meek continues moving independently, and reactions like this from Apple Music’s Rap Life Review show the debate over how (or whether) an artist should revisit their defining records is far from settled.
