Two Milwaukee Rappers, Funny $Money and Lil Sheisty, Were Killed In a Studio Shooting

Police responded around 3:40 p.m. on August 17 to a commercial building near 31st Street and Cameron Avenue in Milwaukee’s Old North neighborhood. Officers found 33-year-old Quentene E. Williams, known professionally as Funny $Money, and 21-year-old Dequaiseon D. Evans, who rapped as Lil Sheisty, dead from gunshot wounds inside a recording studio. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

A 28-year-old man was arrested in connection with the shooting. Milwaukee police have referred the case to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office for possible charges. Investigators have not publicly identified a motive, and Evans’ family has said they do not recognize the suspect or know what led to the incident.

Funny $Money was a well-known figure in Milwaukee’s hip-hop scene. Described as a connector and workhorse, the 33-year-old frequently collaborated with local artists including Sme Taxfree, Chicken P, and Superthrowed Fay Fay. He released a steady stream of projects, including 2022’s Don’t Talk 2 Much (featuring the single “Rocky Balboa”) and later tapes like I Got the Hook Up Vol. 1: Big Bucks No Whammies. Just days before his death, he uploaded the video for his latest single, “Goldie/I Ain’t Lying.” Family members, including his nephew, recalled their last conversation: “The last thing I said to my uncle was, ‘I love you and be safe.’ He said, ‘I’m always safe.’ That was it.”

Lil Sheisty was an up-and-coming artist and father of three. His twin sister, Jaquaisa Evans, described him as family-oriented and dedicated to music. At a vigil the following day, she said she has been wearing his jackets and replaying his songs to stay close to him: “I’ve been listening to his songs ever since. I got to hear his voice.” Relatives said Evans was at the studio with Funny $Money, who they described as a mentor and friend. A cousin, Trinika Walker, called for a change in mindset amid repeated losses to gun violence in the family.

The Milwaukee hip-hop community has seen both growth and repeated tragedy. Funny $Money was viewed as a consistent presence who helped hold the scene together during tougher periods. The investigation remains active, and no additional details on charges have been released as of Thursday.
