Diddy's Sentencing: What Happened and What's Next
Sean "Diddy" Combs was sentenced in a New York federal court to 50 months, about 4 years and 2 months in prison. This came after a high-profile trial that gripped headlines, stemming from allegations of abuse and exploitation. While Diddy faced much graver charges initially, he was only convicted on two lesser counts related to prostitution, avoiding a potential life sentence. The judge also imposed a $500,000 fine and five years of supervised release after prison.
Diddy has already spent about 13 months in custody since his arrest in late 2024. The 13 months will count as time served toward his sentence. That leaves roughly 3 more years left on his sentence. Diddy's projected release date is late 2028 or early 2029, depending on good behavior and federal prison calculations.
The judge, Arun Subramanian, called the sentence a way to hold abusers accountable and send a message against violence toward women, despite the acquittals on major counts. Prosecutors had pushed for over 11 years, while Diddy's defense argued for just 14 months total, saying it should reflect only the proven charges.
The case exposed dark sides of Diddy's empire, with testimony from victims describing manipulation and abuse over the years. Family members, including his children, attended the sentencing and were emotional as the decision was read. One juror later said Diddy "got off easy." This marks a fall from grace for the Bad Boy Records founder.
