BigXthaPlug's "BETTER OVER TIME" Is Here: Dallas' Biggest Voice Goes Back to His Roots
BigXthaPlug doesn't do small. The Dallas rapper's voice alone can rattle a trunk, and his new album has a title that sounds like a mission statement: BETTER OVER TIME. His fourth studio album arrives today, Friday, October 30, and it lands as BigX comes off the biggest run of his career.
Here's what we know going in, from the rollout to the guest list to why this one feels like a homecoming.
A Rollout That Erased His Face
BigX didn't just drop a cover and a date. As The Source reported, the rollout started with his face disappearing from the artwork of his earlier projects, Amar, TAKE CARE, and I Hope You're Happy. Then a short film went up on Instagram.
The message is pretty clear. The old versions of BigX are gone, and this is a new one. For an album called BETTER OVER TIME, you couldn't ask for a better visual metaphor.
Coming Off a Country Crossover
To understand this album, you have to remember the last one. I Hope You're Happy came out in August 2025 and leaned into country. It wasn't a gimmick, either, and it worked. Per The Source, it debuted in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 and the Top 3 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart. It also scored a No. 4 placement on the Hot 100. The Source also notes it was the only album to chart on both the Country and Hip-Hop charts.
The Source puts his career total at 10.7 billion global streams. He also landed a Rolling Stone Future of Music cover shot by David LaChapelle. In other words, BigX isn't a regional secret anymore. He's a full-on star with the numbers to prove it.
Back to the Roots
So where does he go after a crossover hit? Home. The product description from indie retailer Drowned World Records says BigX "doubles down on his hip-hop roots" on this one while still embracing new sounds. It also says the album "wrestles with the cost of success," including the pressure, isolation and responsibility that come with it.
That fits the title. BETTER OVER TIME sounds less like a brag and more like a man taking stock. He's asking what all this has cost him and whether he's actually growing.
The Guest List
Here's who's on it, based on the pre-order tracklist listed by Drowned World Records:
- GloRilla on "FAF"
- Lil Yachty and Babyface Ray on "Believe"
- Ava Max on "Burn"
- Fridayy on "Heal Me"
- Loe Shimmy on "I Like It"
- Ro$ama on "Cracced Da F*cc"
- Belly Gang Kushington on the lead single "LITE"
The Ava Max and Fridayy collabs are the crossover moments. GloRilla and the Yachty/Babyface Ray pairing should be the ones that take over group chats this weekend. "FAF" with Glo is a pairing of two of the loudest voices in the South, and it's hard to imagine that one being quiet.
Other titles listed include "Sky's the Limit," "Peace of Mind," "Free My Members," "I'm Tired," "Lately," "F Rap" and "Die4U." Song titles alone like "I'm Tired" and "Heal Me" back up the idea that this is his most personal project yet.
By the Numbers
Apple Music's pre-release page lists 18 songs, with the album released through UnitedMasters. That's a lot of room to show range: country-tinged hooks, street records and the reflective stuff all in one project. With streaming numbers like his, expect a big first week.
Also Out Today
BigX isn't the only drop today. According to the Rap Reviews release calendar, Sampa the Great releases Nu Zamrock on Loma Vista, and there's also the 13-track compilation Blaktrilogy Vol. 3. Nigerian heavyweight Phyno also drops Let That Sink In, 15 tracks via Penthauze, per The Ent News.
And the next couple of weeks stay busy. Lil Baby's FRESH is set for November 6, led by the Pharrell-produced "Dead Fresh," which peaked at No. 18 on the Hot 100, per Universal Music Canada. Offset is pointing to November 13 for GMFU, according to AllHipHop.
The Bottom Line
BigXthaPlug has already proven he can go anywhere, from the club to country radio to the top of the charts. BETTER OVER TIME is him proving he can come back home and still sound bigger than ever.
What's the first song you're running back, and is BigX the face of Texas rap right now? Let us know.
