Tay Roc vs. Illmac at NOME 16: London Says URL Just Got a Classic
London has seen big battles before, but Sunday night at the Steel Yard felt different. URL brought NOME 16, its "Night of Main Events," across the Atlantic on October 25, 2026, and put Tay Roc in the main event against UK legend Illmac. Before the tape even hits the app, the people who were in the room are using the word nobody throws around lightly: classic.
We're not calling a winner here. There's no official score, and the battle is "Dropping Exclusively on the URLTV App," per URL's own post. What we can do is break down how we got here, what people are saying, and why this one already has everyone arguing.
A Quick Turnaround for the Face of URL
Tay Roc doesn't sit still. As Sneakz & Beatz pointed out when the match was announced, URL booked Roc for London just four weeks after he battled in Atlanta on September 27 at Summer Madness XVI. That card was billed as sold out, and URL hyped his rematch with Rum Nitty as the most anticipated in battle rap history.
Twenty-eight days between Atlanta and London is a quick turnaround for a headliner at that level. It also tells you how URL sees Roc. When the league wants a main event to travel, he's the name on the poster.
Illmac Came With Something to Prove
For Illmac, this was his URL debut, and he knew what it meant. In a pre-battle sit-down with Knowledge Tha God for HipHopIsReal, recapped by HoodGrind, he talked about facing the league's "face" and "logo." He framed the night as a personal test: "Am I really who I think I am?"
He also explained why this was the right moment after previous URL offers: the opponent, the NOME stage, and the London setting all lined up. He gave Roc his respect for years of consistency, hunger, and growth. He even joked about picking Rum Nitty in the Summer Madness rematch since Roc was up next for him. He said the goal was a battle that lives forever.
Illmac isn't some random import, either. He's been in the culture for a long time, and that showed in the reactions. In X's trending recap, battle rap veteran The Saurus said he was proud to see Illmac shine after two decades in the game.
What the Room Said
The early word from the building has been loud and mostly in one direction. Battle Rap Dose put it plainly: "The Consensus In The Building Has Tay Roc Vs. Illmac Delivering A Vintage URL Classic Battle."
People at the event described it as a clash of styles. Illmac brought the sharp, layered pen he's known for, and Roc answered with what a lot of folks are calling a vintage second round. The crowd was reportedly electric from start to finish, and the night gave URL's London run a serious boost.
The Score Debate Is Already On
This is where it gets fun. FVTV Media summed it up: "People who were in the room are calling it a classic. Fans split on the score. Some got Tay Roc 3-0, some got Illmac 2-1, and a few say it came down to the third round."
That's a wide spread. A 3-0 for Roc and a 2-1 for Mac are completely different reads of the same battle. When the people who were actually there can't agree, the tape usually lives up to the hype. Live energy and the camera don't always tell the same story, so expect the scorecards to shift once the battle drops and everybody can run it back.
Tay Roc's 2026 Is Getting Ridiculous
Zoom out and look at the year Roc is having. One fan account, @ibnspawn, listed his three headline spots: SMACK Volume 12 against Ill Will, Summer Madness 16 against Rum Nitty, and now NOME 16 against Illmac. The account called every one of them a Battle of the Year contender.
You can argue about which one is best, but you can't argue with the volume. Main event after main event, against different styles, in different cities, with the pressure on every time. That's what separates the guys who are hot for a season from the guys who carry a league.
What Illmac's Debut Means for URL
For URL, this was a win before anyone scored a round. Bringing a big main event to London and having fans walk out calling it a classic proves the format travels. It also opens the door for more UK-vs-US matchups on the biggest stage in the culture. If Illmac's debut lands the way the room says it did, there will be a line of US names wanting a crack at him.
Illmac has already started talking about the night. HipHopIsReal posted a new interview where he gets into the battle and the ghostwriting conversation taking over battle rap this month. That's a whole other story, and we're covering it this week too.
How to Watch
NOME 16 is set to drop exclusively on the URLTV app. If you haven't caught up, Summer Madness XVI, including Roc vs. Rum Nitty, is already up on the app. Keep an eye on @urltv for the official release date.
Once it drops, watch it with fresh eyes, keep a scorecard handy, and come back and tell us. Was it 3-0 Roc, 2-1 Mac, or did the third round decide everything? The comments are open.
